Belarus unit starts pilot operation

Unit 1 of the first nuclear power plant to be built in Belarus started pilot operation yesterday, Russia's Rosatom has announced. Pilot operation is the final and longest check of a power unit before commissioning. The unit is be the first of the VVER-1200 design to be built outside Russia.

Government Approves Phase One Of Latina Decommissioning

Italy's Ministry of Economic Development has issued a decree authorising state-owned nuclear decommissioning and radioactive waste management company Sogin to begin phase one of decommissioning the Latina nuclear power plant in Lazio, south of Rome.

IAEA commends French nuclear waste programme

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has released the final report from its January 2018 mission to France to review radioactive waste management and decommissioning in the country. The review team said it had been "impressed with the nature and implementation of the French national programme".

Hungarian minister highlights importance of nuclear energy

The coronavirus pandemic has underlined the importance of the existing Paks nuclear power plant, which accounts for about half of Hungary's electricity generation, noted János Süli. The minister responsible for the design, construction and commissioning of two new reactors at Paks said that project will maintain the country's energy security and help revive its economy in the coming years.
