Oil prices rose for the second consecutive day on Tuesday, partly due to the closure of a Turkish export terminal following the earthquakes that struck Turkey and Syria on Monday. However, the main driver of the increase was expectations of a recovery in Chinese demand. As a result, Brent crude increased by 3% to $83.69 a barrel and WTI oil rose by 4% to $77.14 a barrel.

Oil prices had bearish evolution on Thursday amid economic growth concerns and ECB’s raise of interest rates. However, the market is looking for signs of strong fuel demand recovery in China to balance the potential decline in other major economies. Brent crude slipped by 0.8% to 82.17 a barrel and WTI oil edged 0.7% lower at $75.88 a barrel.

Crude oil prices increased to hit their highest levels since December 1, as the bullishness on China reopening and the demand recovery outweighed recessionary fears. Hence, Brent crude rose by $1.18, or 1.4%, to settle at $86.16 per barrel. U.S. WTI crude added 85 cents, or 1.1%, to settle at $80.33 per barrel.

Crude oil prices barely changed on Tuesday as restarts at some U.S. energy plants closed by winter storms offset gains from hopes of a demand recovery as China eases COVID-19 restrictions. Hence, Brent crude rose by 41 cents, or 0.5%, to settle at $84.33 a barrel, while U.S. West Texas Intermediate crude settled 3 cents lower at $79.53 per barrel.

Switzerland’s net power demand rose 4.3% on the year to 58.1 TWh in 2021 due to its economic recovery after the previous year’s coronavirus lockdown, said the country’s energy ministry on Thursday.
