Crude oil prices rebounded on Friday, lifted by prospects of strong demand recovery the United States and a weaker dollar. Brent oil rose by 2.5% to $68.71 a barrel and WTI crude was 2.4% up at $65.37 a barrel.

Oil markets lacked a clear direction on Monday, with the Brent and WTI crude climbing marginally at $68.32 a barrel and $64.92 a barrel despite a cyber-attack forcing the shutdown of major fuel pipelines in the United States. However, hopes of an upcoming general global demand recovery provided some upside pressure.

Crude oil prices strengthened further on Thursday, following optimism from economies around the world recovering from the pandemic and in turn boosting demand for black gold. Thus, Brent crude gained 1.9% to $68.56 a barrel, while WTI oil ended 1.8% up at $65.01 a barrel.

Total on April 29 reported a strong first-quarter recovery in its upstream oil and gas business, with higher prices leading to almost triple the level of adjusted operating profit in the segment compared to a year ago, but also noted continued market volatility and "very poor" refining margins.
