U.S: Solar PV industry installs 684 MW in the third quarter of 2012

According to the Solar Energy Industries Association, about 684 MW of solar PV capacity was installed in the third quarter of 2012, up 44% in comparison to the same period of 2011. In the first 10 months of 2012 solar alone increased by 133%, with total U.S. solar PV power capacity amounting now over 5900 MW, with 1.2 gigawatts of solar photovoltaics installed, bringing 2012 installations to 3.2 gigawatts, enough to supply with power about 1 million households.

Germany: 100% renewable electricity supply by 2050

Germany has pledged to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 35% below the 1990 levels by 2020 and by 80-85 % by 2050. In order to reach such a goal, Germany plans to transform its electricity supply system to completely renewable based electricity. In the first six months of 2012, the amount of electricity produced from renewable energy rose from 20% to 25%, bringing the country closer to its targets of 35% by 2020 and 80% by 2050.

Andra: France reveals its radioactive waste inventory

France had a stockpile of radioactive wastes amounting some 1.32 million cubic meters in 2010, according to a new national radioactive waste report published by the management agency Andra. This represents almost a 13% increase from 1.15 million cubic meters recorded in 2007.

Novatek launched the construction of Sabetta LNG port
