Welsh Water obtained a £250 million loan from the European Investment Bank for renewable energy. The loan is expected to help raise the percentage of power generated from green sources such as wind, sun, water and anaerobic digestion (AD) from 20% to 30% by next year.

Wind farm operators are seeking for a new generation of colossal wind turbines, taller than many skyscrapers, as they want to remain profitable after EU cancels subsidies, that have ruled the green industry since the 1990s. The main countries of the EU offshore wind industry - Denmark, Germany, the Netherlands, and UK - are looking to gradually reduce contributions over the next decade. Subsidies still account for almost 50% of EU wind projects' income.

The government of Netherlands declared on Monday it would meet its objective to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 25% in the year 2020 from 1990s level, only if extra measures will be taken.
