Daily: Crude oil prices fell as stronger dollar counters stockpiles decline

Crude futures declined on Thursday, dragged down by dollar appreciation which countered the optimistic sentiment from a decline in U.S. inventories that was much sharper than expected. Brent crude fell 7 cents, or 0.1 percent, to close at $53.31 a barrel. U.S. crude decreased by 27 cents, or 0.6 percent, to settle at $48.52.

Engie will make an investment of 700 million euros in Belgian reactors, profit halves

Engie's profit for the first half of 2015 decreased because of lower gas prices and the unavailability of three of its seven Belgian nuclear plants, but the French utility preserved its earnings guidance and declared it would invest 700 million euros in the life extension of two Belgian reactors.

EDF will purchase 51 to 75% of Areva reactor unit

French state-controlled utility EDF declared on Thursday it will acquire between 51 and 75 percent of the reactor unit of nuclear conglomerate Areva based on an estimate of 2.7 billion euros ($2.96 billion) for the entire unit.
