Benchmark Brent oil rose by $1.37, or 2.5 percent, to settle at $56.48 a barrel. It had hit $57.17 earlier. U.S. crude boosted $1.70, or 3.6 percent, to close at $49.21 a barrel. The session peak was at $49.46.
