Enel Green Power profits up by over 20% in the first semester
Italy's biggest renewable energy company Enel Green Power (EGP), controlled by Italian utility Enel, has announced yesterday that in the first six month of 2013 its earnings increased by 21.7% to 269 million euros in comparison to 221 million euros in the same period of 2012.

Germany’s CO2 emissions set to increase for a second year
Germany is likely to increase its carbon emissions by 1.5% in comparison to 2012 levels due to a major consumption of coal. Coal is the most polluting fossil fuel and is responsible for contributing to global warming. Following the opening of two new coal power stations in 2012, six more are expected to open this year, with a total capacity of 5800MW.

Daily: European spot power boosts on weak nuclear availability in France
Brent crude oil traded higher on Monday as supply disruptions in Europe offset previous’ week losses, while cautious investors were eager for the results of U.S. Federal Reserve meeting. Supply disruptions in Libya, Iraq and elsewhere have withdrawn over 500,000 barrels per day from the market.

UK: energy imports at their highest level in 2012
According to figures released by the government, UK’s energy imports reached record levels last year, increasing once more worries of possible blackouts in the future. The closure of old power plants, declining domestic reserves and low-emissions objectives all pose challenges to shift to low-cost sources of power.
