MPs has criticized the government for delaying development of shale gas instead of encouraging companies to come up with more precise estimates of recoverable reserves.

Italy's largest energy company, Eni SpA said its profits dropped 57% in the first quarter due to the weaker results to rising taxes and a poor operating performance. Eni said that net profit for the first three months to March was €1.5 billion, compared with €3.62 billion in 2012.

According to a new report offered by Bloomberg New Energy Finance, annual investments in renewable energy is likely to almost triple by 2030. Renewable energy systems will account for between 69% and 74% of all new power capacity added worldwide by 2030 due to the decrease in the cost of solar and wind energy technologies.

The Italian energy firm Enel Green Energy plans to have about 12.4 GW of green power installed, an increase of 4.4 GW on existing power developments, with around 1 GW of that in place by the end of the year.
