Dong Energy to double the size of Walney wind farm

Danish-based developer Dong Energy confirmed plans to more than double the size of the Walney wind farm off the coast of Cumbria. A planning application is due to be submitted in May and, if accepted by the Planning Inspectorate, the 144sq km extension could be in operation by March 2018.

Spain’s shale gas reserves

It has made significant progress in diversifying into renewable energy but, this only accounts for about 9% of its gross inland consumption. A quarter of consumption is fuelled by natural gas and half by petroleum, both of which Spain has to import.
