According to the released report for sustaining the development of Renewable Energy Plan 2011-2020, solar thermal industry in Spain could reach 10GW of installed capacity by the end of 2020, while the technical-economic potential of solar thermal energy in the Spanish industry accounts for 68GW of installed capacity and annual useful heat of 60 TWh.

SunPower overhauls its 2011 fiscal balance sheet

SunPower overhauled its 2011 fiscal balance sheet considering non-GAAP, registering from 2.40 to 2.45 billion dollars total income, a gross margin of 12% to 14% and capital expenditures of 125 to 135 million dollars. Moreover, due to the restructuring program inside the company, for assuring a better future for the company, a pre-tax charge of about 10 million dollars could occur, even if it is not considered in the current 2011 GAAP guidance.

U.S. and Japanese companies to build smart grid projects

American and Japanese companies, Hitachi and Mizuho Corporate Bank, LTd. announced today, November 3 that they will lead the development of a smart grid demonstration project on Maui Island in Hawaii, following the result of feasibility study conducted from May to September this year by Hitachi Company.

EU biodiesel output facing high external competition

EU biodiesel imports saw a high increase in 2011 and are likely to reach 2.52 million tonnes in January/December 2011, up 21 percent from previous year. Most of the high volumes of biodiesel were imported by Italy and Spain, while the European Union imported 1.1 million tones from Argentina and 516,000 tones from Indonesia and Singapore.
