According to the U.S. company Noble Energy, a recent test drilling confirmed huge natural gas reserves at Israel's Leviathan gas deposit in the Mediterranean Sea, containing 450 billion cubic meters of gas, which are supposed to guarantee the country's energy independence.

China National Offshore Oil Corp (CNOOC) will buy half of China United Coalbed Methane Co Ltd., one of the country's leading coal seam gas companies, for 1.2 billion yuan ($181.2 million). China United Coalbed Methane Co Ltd. is considered one of the leaders in the unconventional gas business.

Shell and Gazprom to build third LNG plant in Sakhalin
The governor of the Sakhalin region, Alexander Khoroshavin declared that Gazprom and Royal Dutch Shell Plc plan to expand their Sakhalin-2 venture by 2015. The new project, called Sakhalin-3 consists in building a third plant to produce liquefied natural gas by these two gas companies.

Shell appraises Gas Discovery in Libya
A gas discovery was made in Libya’s Sirte Basin according to Shell Exploration and Production Libya. The company said that it will appraise the discovery to determine if the reserves found are of commercial quantity.
