European power trading volumes uncertain after the 2012 drop

Trading volumes in Europe's major wholesale power markets dropped 12% in 2012, and nearly four months into 2013 the direction of the market is too uncertain to predict. Trading volumes dropped to 8,534 TWh in 2012 in France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain, Britain and the Nordic region from 9,645 TWh in 2011, according to estimates.

Italy now has 16.9 GW of PV capacity installed

According to Italian energy agency Gestore dei Servizi Energetici (GSE), last month Italy added 170 MW of new PV capacity. This compares to about 214 MW registered in March and 126 MW for February. The GSE states this brings Italy’s total solar PV installed capacity to 16.9GW.

Eni’s quarterly profits registered a drop of 57%

Italy's largest energy company, Eni SpA said its profits dropped 57% in the first quarter due to the weaker results to rising taxes and a poor operating performance. Eni said that net profit for the first three months to March was €1.5 billion, compared with €3.62 billion in 2012.

Italy now boasts 16.7 GW of grid-connected PV power

Stating to the Italian energy agency Gestore dei Servizi Energetici SpA, Italy’s total solar PV installed capacity reached 16.7GW. As of the end of March, Italy has registered 214 MW of new PV capacity, with the annual cost of the Italian Conto Energia PV incentive programs that stood at €6.6 billion.
