Japan’s Hitachi to build nuclear power plants in the UK

The Japanese company Hitachi has announced on Tuesday that it intends to buy from German utilities E.ON and RWE the nuclear venture Horizon, for a total of 696 million pounds, and added that it was already in negotiations to find another company to manage the plants after they are built.

Norway’s oil and gas output targets for 2012 in doubt

According to the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate (NDP), Europe’s biggest oil producer is expected to miss its oil and gas output target due to interruptions and technical problems. Norwegian oil and gas production fell deeply in September, as various fields were put on care and maintenance, and will likely produce less oil than the expected 1.6 million barrels per day in 2012.

Coal power is set to increase in the next 4 years to come

In the next 4 years to come, coal power production is set to increase considerably as at the moment it is the most profitable source of energy in Europe. According to UBS AG, power producers from EON AG to RWE AG (RWE) will open six times more coal-burning plants than gas-fed units by 2015.

RWE npower opens the Pembroke Power Station

After three years of construction, the control of the final part of the plant was delivered to the station team last week. RWE npower presented the facility as one of Europe's largest and most efficient combined cycle gas turbine plant which will provide a highly flexible and reliable source of energy, besides it will power 3,5 million homes.
