Brent crude oil declined on Thursday, holding below $100 a barrel after a four parties meeting in Geneva which called for an immediate halt to violence in Ukraine, while WTI crude oil increased on upbeat economic figures. Brent crude for June delivery, which was backed in recent days by intensified unrest in Ukraine, closed down 7 cents at $109.53 a barrel, after earlier touching a peak of $110.19 ahead of the meeting in Geneva. Meanwhile, U.S. oil for delivery in May rose 54 cents to settle at $104.30 a barrel, after having previously hit a high of $104.78 a barrel.

European benchmark, Brent crude posted a modest gain on Tuesday on news that a civil war is close to trigger in Ukraine. However the gains were curbed by forecasts of a resumption of oil exports from Libya.

A new gas and oil discovery has been made by Norwegian oil major Statoil in the northern part of the North Sea, about 10 kilometers of the Valemon gas and condensate field presently under development, as stated by the company on Friday. It is the second substantial finding off Norway in two days.

U.S. crude oil rocketed to near a six-week high on Friday, encouraged by solid gasoline demand and a positive consumer confidence report, but gains were slashed by profit taking and falling demand forecast, published by IEA. Meanwhile, Brent crude prices dropped on Friday, dragged down by Russia’s warnings that it could cut Ukraine’s natural gas supply.
