Daily: Crude oil prices increase on Middle East turmoil

Crude oil prices hit a nine-month intraday high on Friday following news that the United States has allowed sending U.S. weapons to Syrian rebels, increasing worries about Middle East supplies. Meanwhile, front-month Brent futures settled 98 cents higher at $105.93 per barrel, the highest settlement price since April 9, after hitting a high of $106.64. Brent, which had been fluctuated between $99 and $105 for the past eight sessions, settled up 1.3 percent on the week. Meanwhile, U.S. oil closed $1.16 higher at $97.85 per barrel, the highest settlement since late January, after hitting a nine-month high of $98.25, up 1.9 percent on the week.

Statoil signed a 15-year contract with Stadtwerke Düsseldorf

Norwegian oil group Statoil intends to provide Germany's Stadtwerke Duesseldorf with gas for 15 years for a planned 600 MW gas-fired power plant. The new combined cycle gas turbine (CCGT) plant will be erected at the site of Stadtwerke Dusseldorf's existing power plant in Lausward, Duesseldorf .

IEA: Coal demand will continue to grow in the next years to come

According to a new report recently released by the International Energy Agency (IEA) coal could become the world's top energy source by 2017 along with oil. The IEA expects an increase in coal demand all over the world except the US, where natural gas is replacing the black mineral as feedstock for the production of electricity.

Daily: Crude oil settles up on U.S. positive data

Brent crude oil climbed on Thursday, bolstered by gains in U.S. equities in late-session trading following U.S. figures which showed stronger retail sales and a decline in weekly jobless claims. Meanwhile, front month July Brent crude, which expired on settlement on Thursday, inched up 76 cents to settle at $104.25 a barrel, after dropping as low as $102.75. The August contract settled up $1.39 at $104.95. July U.S. crude oil increased 81 cents to settle at $96.69 a barrel, posting gains in six of the last nine trading sessions.

Daily: European spot power prices mixed on warmer weather in Germany, colder in France

Crude oil prices settled slightly higher on Wednesday, but gains were slashed by lower oil demand growth previsions and solid supplies. Spot Brent crude oil futures ended 53 cents higher at $103.49 after trading as high as $104.10. Brent contract for July delivery expires on Thursday. August Brent crude oil futures closed the day at $103.56, up 59 cents. Meanwhile, front-month U.S. crude oil futures settled 50 cents higher at $95.88.
