Poland’s shale gas hopes fade on Talisman, Marathon withdrawal

Poland’s shale gas hopes have recently suffered a major blow after the North American energy companies-Talisman Energy Inc. and Marathon Oil announced that they are quitting the exploration for shale gas in Poland. Poland, the former Soviet bloc country, hoped that the exploration of its shale gas deposits will soon reduce its dependence on Russian gas supplies and will further transform the nation from a gas importer to a gas exporter.

Daily: Crude oil prices curbed by German data, Mideast tensions

Brent crude oil futures dropped more than $1 on Tuesday, dragged down by worries about the market fundamentals which slashed an early increase that brought prices close to $106 a barrel following optimistic data from Germany and concerns about tension in the Middle East. Brent crude dropped $1.06 to settle at $104.40 a barrel, while during the session it hit $105.94, its highest level since April 11. Meanwhile, U.S. oil futures slid 54 cents to settle at $95.62.

Norway plans to increase oil taxes

Norway has recently announced that it plans to increase taxes on oil companies by about 3 billion kroner (500 million dollars) while it plans also lowering taxes for traditional industries and close a tax loophole for multinational firms that shifted profits to lower-tax countries.
