Scottish and Southern Energy loses 50, 000 customers on higher tariffs

The energy provider, Scottish and Southern Energy (SSE) announced that in the nine months to the end of the year it lost 50,000 electricity and gas customers in the UK and Ireland, due to higher energy tariffs imposed by the provider.

Huhne against higher feed-in tariffs for solar power

Recently the Energy and Climate Change Secretary Chris Huhne warned that solar PV installers cannot benefit of the current feed-in tariff rate of 43p/kWh, confirming the government projects to appeal against a second court ruling concerning the reduction of solar incentives.

British Gas to slash electricity prices by 5%

British Gas announced that it will slash the electricity prices by 5% in the next days, as result of falling wholesale prices, being followed by Scottish & Southern Electricity (SSE), which will cut its gas tariff by 4.5% starting from March, 26.

China to increase PV target by 2015

The Chinese Government announced officially its new renewable targets under the current five year plan, raising them to 15GW by 2015. The analysts consider the renewable boom should occur due to introducing in July, the national feed-in tariffs system for PV projects.

UK to face legal action from EU

The British Government could face legal action from European Union over intentions to cut feed-in tariffs for PV systems and introduce energy efficiency requirements on buildings seeking for incentives. The EU Energy Commissioner, Günther Oettinger, considers also that EU could take legal action against any state which weakened its policies threatening thus the achievement of green energy targets.
